In year 1995, Laboratorios Calox de Venezuela resolved to internationalize its businesses, selecting Central America as the best area to start its growth towards other American countries, and Costa Rica was the chosen country. Thus, in 1996 SUKIA FARMACEUTICA S.A. was organized as an strategic partnership between Laboratorios Sukia with a 47 year-presence within the Costa Rican marketplace and Laboratorios Calox de Venezuela, both leaders in the generic drugs industry.

Within the recent years Laboratorios Calox has grown up to becoming an international pharmaceutical company holding distribution contracts in various Latin American countries bringing it to adopt the name of Calox International C.A. in 1998. In that same year, Sukia Farmaceutica C.A. changed its name to CALOX DE COSTA RICA S.A. in order to be recognized as part of CALOX INTERNATIONAL and be able to position the Calox brand within the regional markets. In its San José location, Calox de Costa Rica counts with management and administrative functions focused on serving customers and trade its products.
